Corsican Pine (Pinus nigra maritima)
|
Our Price: £9.99
It grows to about 115ft (35m). A conical tree, slender in outline when young, it's branches are more horizontal than those of other pines.
The needles are long, arranged in pairs on the twig and sometimes twisted.
This tree is a variety of Austrian pine but has much greater value as a timber tree because of its thinner branches and straight cylindrical trunk. Commercial forests of this pine are to be found on light sandy soils not suited to the spruces.
As well as its use in forestry, it is also planted for shelter, and in parks and railway banks.
