Conical evergreen which grows up to 60m. Pendulous sprays of foliage can give the tree a drooping appearance. The parsley scented, light green shoots form flattened sprays, with alternating pairs of scale-like leaves. Male cones are blackish-red, female cones are bluish-green, globular and about 8mmin diameter. Widely planted in Europe and North America for shelter, ornament and timber.
